On January 12, the island of Haiti suffered a devastating earthquake. The world watched in horror as the tales of destruction and misery began to flow from this poor nation.
Two days later in Holland, Michigan a group of area pastors informally known as the Holland Area Prayer Initiative met for an extended time of prayer for Haiti. From that meeting, a dream was shared for the Holland area to give one day’s wages to Haiti.
The effort known as A Day for Haiti followed.
On Tuesday, January 26th between the hours of 12:00 noon and 5:00PM, the Holland area is invited to the Midtown Center (96 West 15th Street — on the corner of 16th & Pine) to pray with area pastors, meet with various reputable relief organizations, and bring their financial gifts and/or hygiene items.
A Day for Haiti will not itself be collecting donations; instead, it serves as a vessel for the Holland community to connect with relief agencies that have reputable and established operations in Haiti to maximize the effects of this effort.
Together we can show the love and concern the Holland area has for the people of Haiti.
What to do:
- Pray about giving one days wages or allowance to your relief effort of choice as part of A day for Haiti, and or collecting hygiene kit items (washcloths, hand towels, soap, tooth brushes, nail clippers, band aids, combs).
- Pray for food, water, and medical supplies to reach those who need them.
- Pray for the people of Haiti and the relief workers.
- On January 26, from noon to 5 p.m., come to the Midtown Center, visit with relief organizations, and bring your financial offering and hygiene kit items (or, if you are not available at that time, donate online and anonymously log your donation).
